GU10 LED Guide 2015 GU10 LED Guide 2015 Author: Chris Horridge Comparing The UKâs Market Leading GU10 LEDs Version 2.0 Jan 2015 Version 2.0 Jan 2015 A GU10 is a type of cap fitted to a lamp (or bulb). The GU10 cap was originally designed for halogens, then CFLs and finally LEDs. They have a distance of 10mm between the centre of the stubby pins. Halogens are expected to be banned within the EU in 2018 The date was put back from 2015 as the lighting industry didnât believe manufacturers were ready to fulfil the demand of switching to LED. To be classed as 50 watt halogen alternative, an LED must have a lumen output of at least 345lms (DIM2 compliance). GU10s have become the preferred choice for LED retrofit lamps. Operating directly on mains voltage (220-240V). What is a GU10? Itâs more than bright enough to replace a 50 watt halogen at 450 lumens. Itâs highly reliable, not quite as reliable as Philips but has a very low failure rate. Sold for over 3 years with a proven track record of success. But itâs the smooth dimming performance and broader dimming compatibility that gives it the edge.
